THE Chinese Government has made significant efforts in the past five years to build world-class universities and disciplines, as well as enhance talent development, according to the government work report delivered at the annual session of the National People’s Congress.

今年的政府工作报告指出，五年来，中国接续推进世界一流大学和一流学科建设，不断夯实发展的人才基础。

This commitment to higher education is good news, as it “opens the door for talented students to participate in the knowledge economy and bring prosperity to China,” according to Guillermo Gallego, a professor from the School of Data Science at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen (CUHK-Shenzhen).

来自香港中文大学（深圳）数据科学学院的Guillermo Gallego教授表示，加强高等教育是一个非常好的消息，因为“这将为优秀学生打开一扇门，让他们积极参与知识经济，并为中国富强做出贡献。”

Gallego, who hails from the United States, told Shenzhen Daily that schools at CUHK-Shenzhen are actively developing new programs that respond to societal needs, which will undoubtedly contribute to the talent pool in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) and beyond.

来自美国的Gallego教授在接受采访时表示，香港中文大学（深圳）各学院正在积极开展新教学方案以满足社会需求，为粤港澳大湾区及其他地区提供人才储备。

The government work report also emphasized the importance of sci-tech development, with China making full use of universities and research institutions, supporting the development of new research institutions, and promoting international sci-tech exchanges and cooperation over the past five years.

今年的政府工作报告也强调科技发展的重要性，五年来，中国发挥好高校、科研院所作用，支持新型研发机构发展，促进国际科技交流合作。

In terms of international sci-tech exchanges and cooperation, Gallego said that CUHK-Shenzhen has published research results in top journals and attracted talents from prestigious universities around the world, which will contribute to the international science and technology collaboration.

关于国际科技交流合作，Gallego教授表示香港中文大学（深圳）在顶级期刊上发表了许多研究成果，吸引了来自世界顶尖大学的人才，这已经并将继续为国际科技交流合作做出贡献。

Gallego added that much more can be done in terms of global sci-tech collaboration by setting goals of hiring a more diverse group of faculty and students.

Gallego also advised encouraging collaboration where papers are jointly authored by students and faculty members in CUHK-Shenzhen with students and faculty from other top universities in the world, and where students and faculty more actively participate in world forums to present research results and to interact with other scholars from around the world.

Gallego教授建议引进更多不同背景的师生群体，开展更广泛的国际合作，让香港中文大学（深圳）的师生与世界其他顶尖大学的师生共同撰写论文，一同积极地参与世界级论坛，展示他们的科研成果，并与全球其他学者互动。
