At 8 a.m. toay, the center of Typhoon Fengshen — the 24th typhoon of the year — was over Luzon in the Philippines, about 1,220 km from Shenzhen. Moving northwest at roughly 35 km/h, the storm was expected to enter the South China Sea this evening and track toward the southeastern waters off Hainan Island.

Forecasters said the chance of Fengshen making landfall in Guangdong is small, and it is projected to pass about 400 km south of Shenzhen on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, a strong cold front arriving tonight will end Shenzhen’s prolonged heat.

From tomorrow onward, Shenzhen will see strong wind, rain, and cooling, with nighttime lows falling to between 17 and 20 degrees Celsius. The most severe wind, rainfall, and temperature drops are expected from Monday night through Wednesday, with the lowest temperature around 17°C Wednesday.

Because strong winds will persist and heavy rain is likely, conditions may change rapidly. Residents are advised to secure outdoor objects, avoid going out in hazardous weather, dress warmly, and monitor local forecasts and official advisories.

Heavy wind and rain will also affect the northern South China Sea and coastal areas of southern China.

Some trains to and from Hainan Island will be suspended from Monday to Wednesday, with all services canceled on Tuesday. Guangdong’s coastal tourist sites may be closed if necessary.
